Suitable for any age, the Virginia Creeper Trail can be enjoyed by all! For those unsure about biking the trail, the 17-mile stretch from Whitetop to Damascus is almost all downhill – which may be the perfect introduction before taking on the full 34-mile trail.

How long is the creeper trail?

The entire Virginia Creeper Trail is 34 miles from Whitetop Virginia to Abingdon Virginia.

How far is the ride from Whitetop down to Damascus?

17 miles, almost all downhill.  The last 3 miles flattens out a bit.

Is there water, food and restrooms along the trail?

Yes, there is a cafe/restaurant about every 8 miles and restrooms about every 4 miles on the trail.

How long does it take to ride the entire creeper trail (34 miles) from Whitetop back to Abingdon?

The average time is 5.5 hours.  This includes taking time for lunch and taking in all the scenery!

What is the surface of the Creeper Trail like?

Crushed limestone and cinder left over from the train days.  Tiny gravel and hard packed.

Is a helmet required when riding on the va creeper trail?

No, helmets are not required.  But we highly recommend them!

Can I bring my own bike to ride the creeper trail?

Yes, of course.  Or you may rent a bicycle and equipment from us.

Is riding the creeper trail strenuous?

Nope.  Even people who haven’t ridden a bicycle in years can do this ride.  It’s great for anyone, from grandparents to grand kids!

What are your store hours?

We are open daily from 8am to 5pm.

What time does your creeper trail bike shuttles leave?

The Virginia Creeper Trail shuttles leave daily at 9am, 10:30am, 12pm, 1:30pm, & 3pm.

Do cell phones work on the trail?

Not on the upper (Whitetop to Damascus) section.  You’re in a gorge in the middle of the forest most of the time.  They sometimes work on the lower (Damascus to Abingdon) section, depending on your carrier.

Do you require reservations for shuttle service and/or bike rentals?
